About the Author

Paul Battista is a Los Angeles–based entertainment attorney who has provided legal services to more than 125 feature film, documentary, and television projects. He has been a guest speaker at many film festivals and conferences, including Slamdance Film Festival and Film Independent’s Filmmaker Forum, in addition to lecturing at film and law schools in the Los Angeles area. He also wrote, directed, and produced the low-budget independent feature film Crooks (2002), which has been released by Warner Home Video. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

A priceless resource for first-time filmmakers outside LA

A must-have resource for outside-of-California screenwriters/producers looking to make their first indie film. And if you can get Paul on board as your entertainment lawyer, even better! This book was an indispensible resource in making my film which has since secured distribution and won many festival awards. Reading this book was my first step to getting my film done. If I can do it, you can too!

Such a great handbook for Low Budget Filmmakers

I teach Low Budget Filmmaking at UCLA Extension and am always thrilled when Paul Battista is available to speak to my students. If you don't have a chance to speak to Paul in person, this book is the next best thing.

Such great information packed into one invaluable resource.

Word connections

This dictionary explains the origin of many mathematical terms, briefly summarizing their development from Latin and Greek, and often even tracing them back to an Indo-European root.

There are no significant technical explanations, while the etimologies are discussed in just enough depth to permit the connection between related words belonging to other, possibly completely different fields. Many of them are presented as examples spread throughout the book, and, after reading them, many more can be thought of with minimal effort.

The Words of Mathematics

This book is one of the best mathematical resources I've come across in a long time. It is such an interesting book, I take it everywhere and incorporate it into all of my mathematic lessons. When students are made aware of the history behind the mathematic vernacular, they are better able to understand the mathematical concepts and retain that knowledge. This book is a must for anyone who aspires to attain the title, "Master Teacher of Mathematics!"

Never have I found a more profoundly helpful text as this, Mr. Steven Schwarztman's opus. My love for this book is like the tangent of pi over two; it goes on forever! I reference it often and have bought several copies already. (for the living room, office, water closet, etc.) Sometimes I find myself lost in Mr. Schartzman's mathematical world of words. The masterful organization of each entry is truly a visual delight. Hats off to you Steven! Bravo.

About the Author

Lydia Brownback (MAR, Westminster Theological Seminary) serves as a senior editor at Crossway in Wheaton, Illinois, and an author and speaker at women’s conferences around the world. Lydia previously served as writer in residence for Alistair Begg and as producer of the Bible Study Hour radio program with James Montgomery Boice.

J. I. Packer (DPhil, Oxford University) serves as the Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology at Regent College. He is the author of numerous books, including the classic best-seller Knowing God. Packer served as general editor for the English Standard Version Bible and as theological editor for the ESV Study Bible.

Dane C. Ortlund (PhD, Wheaton College) is the executive vice president of Bible publishing and Bible publisher at Crossway. He serves as an editor for the Knowing the Bible series and the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, and is the author of several books, including Edwards on the Christian Life. He lives with his wife, Stacey, and their five children in Wheaton, Illinois.

Review: Proverbs-A 12 Week Study

Since receiving this study back in August, I have spent a considerable amount of time going through Proverbs - A 12 Week Study and making notes for this review.

For starters, this isn't an "easy" study to do on your own. I would recommend this study for a group setting for adults. My home church is currently hosting another bible study on Thursday mornings from the series Knowing Your Bible, Proverbs is also apart of the Knowing Your Bible series by Crossway.

Each week, Proverbs invites the scholar (you) to study certain passages from Proverbs. The passages for weekly study range from one chapter or more. Each weekly section, there are questions to be answered about the passage not only to engage the scholar, but for a group discussion. I felt I got more out of the questions themselves than I did answering them on my own. Almost each question had a key point backed up by scripture allowing me to learn from the question, but still allowing me to answer the question with my own thoughts and opinions. Also, there are definitions at the bottom of most pages to clarify any words within the questions a scholar might not understand.

Towards the end of the study questions, there are four sections for the scholar to read over to help understand the bigger picture of the passage: Gospel Glimpses, Whole-Bible Connections, Theological Soundings, and Personal Implications. I think this part is the most enlightening to the learning scholar by showing how the passage fits in the grand scheme of the Bible, especially the Gospel Glimpses section.

For anyone who is starting to get serious about studying the bible-hands down this is the study for you. Be prepared to learn about scripture rather than applying it.

He studied Computer Science with Mathematics as a subsidiary subject and earned his diploma degree at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel. His creative work was influenced by computer competitions during the 90s. In the late 90s, he began to develop web applications. Daniel worked as a Software Developer for several companies and is currently employed at the HSH Nordbank. He has a special interest in JVM languages and web frameworks, especially Scala and the Play Framework.

not enough

Ok half the cost but this is really a pamphlet,minor half a book. Furthermore, it barely goes into anything beyond the utterly elementary level. The docs and sample code are much better than this and they are free.
