Another great logo resource

Logolounge's new book is a nice addition to the series with yet another 2,000 professional looking logos added. It's a good resource for graphic designers to get a quick visual spark.

The logos are grouped into different categories which makes them easier to find. While you can find free logo designs on Pinterest, there's no way to sort them by subject matter, theme or design elements.

In addition to the logos, there are a few case studies on the design process for several companies.

Just like the earlier books, LogoLounge continues to be a very useful reference for graphic designers.

About the Author
Richard Wortley is Head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Griffith University, Brisbane. He has a PhD in psychology from Macquarie University, Sydney, and began his career as a prison psychologist in the New South Wales prison system, a position he held for nine years. It was his experience in prisons that convinced Dr Wortley of the crucial role of the immediate environment in shaping human behaviour in general and prisoner behaviour in particular. During this period he was involved in the establishment of the first unit management facility in an Australian prison (Bathurst Gaol), and the success of these units in reducing violence showed him that positive change in prison was possible. Since taking up a university position he has taught and researched in the areas of corrections and crime prevention. Recent articles have appeared in Law and Human Behaviour, the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Crime Prevention Studies and Studies in Crime and Crime Prevention. He is currently National Chair of the Australian College of Forensic Psychologists.

San Francisco became notorious for its lawlessness, its gambling casinos, and its bordellos and madams. The Barbary Coast became a part of California's history and San Francisco's heritage. The Barbary Coast was an area near the waterfront that law enforcers found almost impossible to control. Those who operated establishments there, refused to abide by the gradually encroaching law and order being established by the other parts of town. For along the Barbary Coast any vice could be bought. There also, a little-known vice guarded with great secrecy were the male houses of prostitution. Some of the more clandestine operations offered young boys. Most of these boys had few means of survival other than their wits and bodies. Known as peg-houses, the places provided young boys to those who were able to meet the extraordinary prices. These houses were often operated by unscrupulous and ruthless men who provided the boys with drugs, thereby chaining them by their addictions. These could become hopeless addicts unable to function as anything but subservient slaves to their masters.An international slave trade supplied these houses with boys who were enticed or kidnapped from all over the world. Peg-houses were common in the Orient. The custom was brought to the West by seamen who had grown fond of such pleasures. Boys were trained to service customers by wearing a wooden peg of gradually increasingly sizes. They would be offered for selection while sitting on stools that displayed the properly sized peg protruding from the bottom to indicate the size that each boy had been trained to accommodate. This is the story of Santiago Cali, one such boy.

About the Author
Raymond G. Berube, M.Ed. is a teacher, author, therapist currently living in Aachen Germany with his partner of 25+ years. He has studied hypnosis, NLP, and Stress Management. Raymond has trained with Dr. Milton H Erikson and Dr.Piero Ferrucci of Florence, Italy in 1986 while there doing research for a novel about Emperor Hadrian, on sale with Amazon. He has experienced numerous international cities in his travels and these experiences have come to fruition in the collections of short stories in two volumes, also available at Amazon.com and other retailers. At present he is a tutor of English to young people and also teaches English as a second language to adults. Reluctant at the beginingi, thrilled at the end!

Surprisingly, I ended up liking this book, and even go as far as giving it 5 starts. But, let's be clear here:

1) This book has highly detailed depictions of sex between minors with minors and adults; lots of times without consent (aka: rape)
2) This books is self-published; So, some typos pipe up here and there, but nothing tremendous.
3) It is literature; fantasy, based on the acknowledge of a historic fact: "peg-boys", and child sex-slaves in general through history.

If anything of the above 3 bugs you, then simply do NOT buy this book. If you do though, understand the difference between reality and fiction, and you are curious to find out how someone can use the child-sex-slave material and use in an historical novel, and DO realize that a few misspells and typos may occur, then I say this book will probably satisfy you.

It's an adventure of a young boy who gets (himself) into the child-sex market of the mid-19th century in San Francisco. He'll get a hard time, but will come out victorious, having paid a price though; as we all know that that's how life works. You'll learn some interesting facts about things in the mid-19th century and have a clearer understanding of why the west was (and still is) called the "Wild" West...

All in all; it's just that: An adventure with sex, drugs and fortune with main starts underage boys. If you like fiction and don't seek for Dostoyevsky-like "high-end-literature", there's a high chance you'll like this book.

A great read,

I find the book a page turner for the graphic sex and tale of adventure, This is a book like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn....a tale of an implausible adventure laced with feats of boldness and daring....a story of a life we can relate to and maybe wish we had done more of.

The author has done research and delivers an accurate picture of San Francisco and the gold rush era. The story of bordellos and rent boys rings very true, take it from someone who lived in San Francisco for several decades. This market is still, to this day, alive and thriving.

Yes, I must resist the urge to red pencil the book for editing errors but nonetheless the story is well crafted and historically accurate.

This book brought out most emotions.
Started off as a happy but strange tale and worked it's way through, grief, fury, sadness, outrage, hope and then finally happiness.
Although the story line is embellished for the readers entertainment it is these sorts of stories that show humans can be inhumane
I liked the book and found it difficult to put down.

Game Rules Written by an Academic

First, though Tarot is in the name, this is not a book about fortune telling or anything of the sort. Michael Dummett is an academic who has a passion for the history of card games, and this book introduces 12 card games using various Tarot packs from around the world. The intended audience then is actually card-game aficionados. While this book is expensive and fairly rare to find, it is an excellent introduction to some splendid games (there are few other English language books that even reference Tarot games. One notable exception is Tarocchi: Introducing the Card Games for Tarot, but even that book is getting harder to find.

If you like card games, he introduces 12 delightfully varied Tarot games, complete with a small discussion of strategy after each of the games. The one downside of the book, other than price, is that Dummett IS an academic. As a consequence, the rules can be extremely dry reading. If you're the kind of person who loves reading the rules of card games, you'll probably be very excited by the precision with which he describes these gems. If you play card games but have to sit down and play to understand, this is probably not the book for you.

Note that some of these rules are available at pagat.com for the curious who want to dabble, but this is one of the best references out there (the best is also by Dummet, Complete History of Games Played with the Tarot Pack, but it is a massive 2 volume work that weighs in at 900 pages and is extremely rare and very expensive).

About the Author

Jason Brumitt, MSPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS*D, is an instructor of physical therapy at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon. He earned his master of science degree in physical therapy from Pacific University and is currently a doctoral candidate at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. Brumitt is board certified in sports physical therapy and certified as an athletic trainer. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist with distinction. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he provides clinical rehabilitation services to the student-athletes of Pacific University.

Brumitt is the author of “Ounce of Prevention,” a regularly featured column in the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Performance Training Journal. He has published numerous articles on sports medicine and strength training in the North American Journal of Sports Physical Therapy, the New Zealand Journal of Physiotherapy, Physiotherapy Theory and Practice, Strength and Conditioning Journal, and Athletic Therapy Today. Brumitt has presented lectures on core training at local and national professional conferences as an invited speaker for both the NSCA and the Northwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (NWATA).

Brumitt, his wife, and their three children reside in Damascus, Oregon.

1st step to being a personal trainer?

If you are looking for more knowledge to train yourself or others this would be a great resource to start with before going to get certified. Plenty to learn in this book about how to train yourself and others. Lots of terms and definitions so you can work on your brain as well as your body. If you are looking at a career in fitness or just want to improve your understanding of your own body, this book is an inexpensive way to get educated on your body and accepted training techniques.

Intelligent book.

This is a great book for couches, if you want your clients to be on save side you definitely must read this book, and of course if you do gym it's a must have because it shows how to stay away from injurys, in fact this book must be read it before going to the gym, but not only for bodybuilders ( I am B.B ), this book it's for all type of sports and for good, strong and healtly body.

Don't forgot you got and an dvd wich shows the assesments and core exercise technique.
